About the
Clinic
There is a Difference.
Our office is fully equipped to test for allergies and for breathing
disorders. To detect the particular allergens that you may be allergic
to, we use a quick, painless, and reliable skin test. To determine
whether you have asthma, we utilize a computerized spirometer. The
results of both tests are visible to the patient.
We are staffed with licensed nurses and administrative assistants. Our
mission is to have an office where people receive optimum care in an
atmosphere of kindness and compassion.
On Your First Visit. We
believe that your initial appointment with us is the most important. You
will see first-hand that our office prides itself in caring for your
needs. Once you have met our staff, we will check your blood pressure,
and other vital signs. Dr. Hovanky will take your complete medical
history, and examine you thoroughly. Skin testing and/or Spirometry will
be performed, if required, for an accurate diagnosis. Then, we will
discuss with you our findings and our recommendations for further
treatment.
Good Communication. We
place a great deal of importance on good communication. First of all, we
believe that the most important aspect of communication is listening.
You will notice that we listen closely to what you have to say. We want
to know how you feel and what you are thinking.
Once we are sure we understand what is important to you, we will make
sure to give you all the correct information you need to make the proper
decisions about your health and the health of your family.
Treatment. Mild
allergies may be treated with medication. For severe allergies, allergen
immunotherapy (allergy injections) may be suggested. Mild asthma may be
treated with occasional medication. For chronic asthma, regular use of
inhalers may be prescribed.
Results. The symptoms
of allergies, such as: sneezing, runny nose, itching, nasal congestion,
post-nasal drainage, watery eyes are caused by an allergic inflammation
of the airways. Medications used as directed generally provide
sufficient relief of symptoms. Asthmatics under care can expect outcomes
such as: a decrease in the number of emergency room visits and
hospitalization, a decrease in missed work or school days, and an
increase in work productivity and satisfaction with disease management.
Follow-up. For some
patients, one visit is all that is required to make the diagnosis and,
if necessary, to prescribe some medications, or to recommend a change in
life-style. For others, intermittent or continuous care may be required.
If you were referred to us by another physician, we will report our findings to, and coordinate any continuing care with, that
physician. We want to help you reach, and maintain, your desired level
of activity, and to breathe freely again.
